Kuroshio Current in Taiwan by Aven

In this satellite footage from NASA, we can observe the Kuroshio Current flowing past Taiwan, with Pingtung being its first point of contact—a meeting that creates Taiwan’s most breathtaking coastal scenery.
Inspired by this, the “Kuroshio Artist” Aven Chen commissioned master craftsmen to build a massive wooden frame for a large-scale oil painting, aiming to capture the majesty and beauty of Pingtung’s Kuroshio. Utilizing premium European canvas, pigments, and solvents, he employed the “wet-on-wet” technique, blending colors directly on the canvas to recreate the dynamic motion of the current. The resulting masterpiece spans three meters in width; its scale is so immense that it required two craftsmen to hold it steady just for the photograph.

About the Artist

Aven Chen

Aven is a Taiwanese painter who specializes in oil paintings of figures and landscapes. His painting techniques combine classical and modern painting schools. Aven has been awarded the International Arts Competition Manhattan 1999, an achievement that has made him famous in the international art world.

Taiwanese artist Aven Chen is a distinguished oil painting master and a life-size portrait artist. He is renowned for his unique painting techniques,

perfectly blending the rigor of classical techniques with the fluid expression of modern art. In 1988, he won Janet T. Royce Award from the Pastel Society of America, and He received the Artist Showcase Award at the International Arts Competition Manhattan 1999.

Aven は人物画および風景画を専門とする台湾の画家であり、古典絵画と現代絵画の双方の技法を融合させた独自の油彩技法を用いています。
